Job Description

Primary function of this position will be to manage and lead the Carrier Management and Brokerage Department for the Company. This position is a key leader and representative of the company in the market place and requires professionalism in all forms of communication, including presentations and in-person interactions with all stakeholders to include leadership, executives, employees, customers, and valued supply chain partners. The position represents the company in a positive image with employees, customers and the community always performing in a safe and ethical manner.

  • This position is expected to use industry insight and knowledge to design, develop and source low cost quality carrier solutions and obtain brokerage freight to meet the profitability of the company while meeting our customer's needs.
  • Responsible to manage the qualification process for all Carriers and Transportation providers to ensure safety and quality of carrier partners in the network including the ongoing monitoring of carriers performance and CSA scores.
  • Negotiates rates with carriers using industry tools and a well-rounded knowledge of market pricing and pay rates in a high paced and dynamic environment.
  • Creates, maintains and develops relationships with outside carriers in the over the road and local transportation industry.
  • Manages and works with sales and pricing to provide formal responses to Requests for Proposals (RFP).
  • Directly collaborates with and supports asset based leadership.
  • Develop and track KPIs that measure key operational, service, and financial aspects of the business
  • Responsible to manage the qualification process for all Carriers and Transportation providers in the network including the ongoing monitoring of carriers performance and CSA scores.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and management of processes, policies, and procedures for approval to efficiently manage the assigned department including the updating of qualified carriers in the TMS system.
  • Develop and maintain an Approved Outsourced Carrier list that provides multiple carriers/providers for all modes of transportation (Truckload, LTL, Ground Expedite, Cargo van/cartage, Intermodal, Air Freight, and Ocean Freight SSL), etc. while following company approved procedures.
  • Develop Outsourced Transportation processes for the Benore Operations team to ensure the proper mode of transportation, the proper carrier, at the proper prices are selected for the business need.
  • Develop a Carrier rate database (leveraging both our IT department and TMW) for access by functional departments (Operations, Finance, Accounts Payable, Solutions Design, etc.):
  • Develop and maintain Route Guides (as needed) for repetitive, business specific outsourced lanes to ensure proper service, price, and equipment is utilized by the operations team.
  • Formulate and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives
  • Design, Negotiate, and Implement the contracts with all Benore outsourced carriers and providers.
  • Develop subject matter expertise in TL transportation through external research, benchmarking and analyzing cost drivers. Provide market intelligence and price trends. Develop deep understanding where our risks and opportunities exist.
  • Manage brokerage dispatch team as business unit grows.
  • Optimize profit margin without compromising service.
  • Work with company leadership to ensure proper planning and utilization of network capacity. Eliminate long-term and short-term resource imbalances and ensure customer service commitments are met.
  • Efficient use of company TMS systems to produce proficiency in reporting:
  • Establish and maintain access to brokerage load boards to secure capacity or freight to fill backhaul/head hauls lanes to meet network needs.
  • Maintain adept knowledge in the trucking industry DOT and C-TPAT regulations, seasonality, driver capacity and demographics trends:
  • Manage to operational standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, and safety to ensure on-time pick-ups and delivery:
  • Follows all workplace processes and standard in support of the ISO-9001 Quality Certification program.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required; concentration in supply chain or logistics preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the TL or 3PL transportation industry - brokerage and or carrier management preferred
  • Experience with load boards, e.g., DAT, Internet Truck Stop, etc.
  • Expertise with TMS software (e.g., TMW, Mercury Gate, Carton Logic, SAP, AS400).
  • Must have recent work history
  • Proven track record working cross-functionally; ability to work well with all levels of team members with different backgrounds and needs.
